Our highly qualified instructors  teach under the meticulous guidance of Mykola Kanevets. Instructors complete a teaching and instructional program under his guidance prior to teaching independently. Chumak and Cheremshyna are instructed by Mykola  himself with the help of assistant instructors.

Mykola Kanevets Artistic Director & Principal Instructor

Since 1991, the Cheremosh family of dance groups has had the privilege of working with Mykola Kanevets. Mykola provides direction for the Novice Classes and instructs Chumak I, Chumak II and Cheremshyna. He has also been the internationally acclaimed Artistic Director for the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company since 1991, his true passion. His meticulous instruction, expertise, and brilliant choreography have propelled students of the Cheremosh School of Dance to the forefront of Ukrainian dance as an art form. Read more…

Michael Leskow Beverly Recreational Instructor

Michael joined the Ukrainian Cheremosh Society as a dancer with Cheremshyna in 1992. He danced with the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company from 1993 to 2006, performing throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. While performing with Cheremosh, Michael taught dance with the St. Basil’s Ukrainian Cultural Society from 1994-1997. Read more…

Emily Belke St. Albert Recreational & Summer Camp Instructor

Emily started her dance education at Dance Unlimited with a love of Tap, Musical Theatre and Ukrainian. In 2004 Emily travelled to Germany to compete with Team Canada in Tap and Show Dance. Following her love of dance Emily joined the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company. With Cheremosh she has preformed on stages all over the world including New York and Ukraine. Emily is currently a teacher within the Greater St. Albert Catholic School Division. Read more…

Stacia Dolynchuck (Koper) Terwillegar Recreational Instructor

Stacia began her dance training at the early age of 3. She was very fortunate to grow up in a household immersed in Ukrainian Dance where both parents were dance teachers. Stacia began her dance carreer with the Kalyna Ukrainian dancers in 1989, then moved to the Parkland Ukrainian Dancers under the instruction of her parents in 1995. Along with Ukrainian dancing, Stacia practiced tap, jazz, lyrical dance at the Sandra Grey School of Dance. Read more…

Daniel Berry Assistant Artistic Director - Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company, Instructor - Riverbend Recreational

Daniel Berry has been involved in the Ukrainian Dance Community for over 32 years. Daniel is enthusiastic and dedicated in his approach to ensuring first class instruction to many different levels of dancers and students. Daniel began his Ukrainian dance training at the age of three. At the age of 9, Daniel joined Chumak where he trained under the direction of Artistic Director/Ballet Master Mykola Kanevetz. Kendra Currie Assistant Instructor - Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company

Kendra joined the Ukrainian Cheremosh Society as a Cheremshyna dancer in 2003. She is a current member of the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company and has been since 2005. With the Company, she has toured Canada, China, and Ukraine and has been a part of Cheremosh’s Revolutions, Razom, 40th Year Anniversary and Bud’mo productions.  While completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta, Kendra taught swimming lessons, first aid courses, and trained Lifeguards for 6 years. Matthew Currie Assistant Instructor - Cheremshyna

Matt began dancing with the Cheremosh School of Dance in 1993 at the age of 11. In 1998, Matt auditioned for the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company where he danced with company for over 12 years, retiring in 2010. His tour credits include performing in major Cheremosh productions including “New Beginnings”, “Share the Journey”, “Revolutions”, “Journey to the Great Wall”, “Razom”, and “The Art of Cheremosh”. Alexis Gelowitz Assistant Instructor - Cheremshyna

Alexis’ dance experience started with Ballet at the age of 5. At the age of 6 she joined Cheremosh’s Novice group dancing her way from Novice to Chumak, then onto Cheremyshyna. Finally in the summer of 2011 Alexis fulfilled her dream and started dancing with the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company. Alexis practiced RAD ballet at both Edmonton Dance Factory and Dance Discovery from 2007-2010, and supplemented her dance career via the Dance Intensive Program at Louis St. Laurent high school. JoAnn Zayak, Assoc. CSC-CICB Ballet Instructor

JoAnn was born and raised in Derwent Alberta, and has been training in dance since the age of three.  Training in Ceccetti ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, tap, and Ukrainian folk dance. JoAnn began her dance training in Vermilion Alberta, and has participated in many competitions and workshops. Since an early age JoAnn has had a love for teaching children in the art of dance. JoAnn continues to develop her performance abilities training and travelling across North America as a member of the Cheremosh Ukranian Dance Company. Read more…

Haley Kostyshen Instructor - Riverbend and Beverly Recreational

Haley’s passion for Ukrainian dance began at the young age of three when she started dance at St. Basil’s Sadok. Since then Haley’s passion for dance continued to grow not only in Ukrainian but Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary. Haley’s dance experience was readily advanced through the Dance Intensive Program at Louis St. Laurent High School. Read more…

Sarah Kopichanski Assistant Instructor - Chumak

In 2001, Sarah began her dance career at the age of 8 where she danced with the Mahia School of Ukrainian Dance. After two years, she moved to the Shumka School of Dance where she completed 6 years of the syllabus program. During her time at the Shumka School of Dance, she took extra enrichment and ballet classes to improve her technique. In 2009, Sarah joined the Viter Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Read more…
