Our highly qualified instructors  teach under the meticulous guidance of Mykola Kanevets. Instructors complete a teaching and instructional program under his guidance prior to teaching independently. Chumak and Cheremshyna are instructed by Mykola  himself with the help of assistant instructors.

Mykola Kanevets Artistic Director & Principal Instructor

Since 1991, the Cheremosh family of dance groups has had the privilege of working with Mykola Kanevets. Mykola provides direction for the Novice Classes and instructs Chumak I, Chumak II and Cheremshyna. He has also been the internationally acclaimed Artistic Director for the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company since 1991, his true passion. His meticulous instruction, expertise, and brilliant choreography have propelled students of the Cheremosh School of Dance to the forefront of Ukrainian dance as an art form. Read more…

Stacia Dolynchuck (Koper) South Studio Instructor

Stacia began her dance training at the early age of 3. She was very fortunate to grow up in a household immersed in Ukrainian Dance where both parents were dance teachers. Stacia began her dance carreer with the Kalyna Ukrainian dancers in 1989, then moved to the Parkland Ukrainian Dancers under the instruction of her parents in 1995. Along with Ukrainian dancing, Stacia practiced tap, jazz, lyrical dance at the Sandra Grey School of Dance. Read more…

Michael Leskow North Studio Novice Instructor

Michael joined the Ukrainian Cheremosh Society as a dancer with Cheremshyna in 1992. He danced with the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company from 1993 to 2006, performing throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. While performing with Cheremosh, Michael taught dance with the St. Basil’s Ukrainian Cultural Society from 1994-1997. Read more…

Elizabeth Alleyne Ballet Instructor

Elizabeth Alleyne has 25 years of dance experience and has been involved in Ukrainian dance for just over 20 years. Elizabeth started her Ukrainian dancing at the age of 8 and came to Veeteretz at the age of 10 where she continued in her Ukrainian dance education. Read more…

Emily Belke North Studio Novice & Summer Camp Instructor

Emily started her dance education at Dance Unlimited with a love of Tap, Musical Theatre and Ukrainian. While teaching at Dance Unlimited, Emily obtained her Junior Grades Cecchitti Teaching certificate. It was joining the Ukrainian Shumka dancers in 2006 which really evolved her love of Ukrainian dance. In 2011 Emily joined the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company. Read more…

Shereen Pennoyer Summer Camp Instructor

Shereen began her dance training in 1996, receiving instruction in Ukrainian and Vaganova ballet. In 1999 she joined Yuna Volya’s junior performing and competing group out of Edmonton. She was accepted to Cheremshyna in 2001 and spent a year adjusting to the Cheremosh style and technique. In June of 2002, just six years after her first exposure to Ukrainian dance, Shereen was accepted to the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company. Read more…

Kendra Currie Assistant Instructor

Kendra joined the Ukrainian Cheremosh Society as a Cheremshyna dancer in 2003. She is a current member of the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company and has been since 2005. With the Company, she has toured Canada, China, and Ukraine and has been a part of Cheremosh’s Revolutions, Razom, 40th Year Anniversary and Bud’mo productions.  While completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Alberta, Kendra taught swimming lessons, first aid courses, and trained Lifeguards for 6 years.
