Cheremosh mourns the loss of Olena Kanevets


With hearts filled with deep sorrow, the family of Olena Kanevets announces her passing on Monday, October 20, 2014, at the age of 46, following a courageous battle with cancer.
 Beloved wife of Mykola and cherished mother of Sasha, Olena will be sorely missed, and held dearly in their hearts forever.
 Olena was born in Koloyema, Ukraine on July 10, 1968. Read more…

Zorya (Bociurkiw) Belanger has been a member of the Plast Ukrainian Youth Scouting Organization since she was 6 years old. Born in Edmonton and an Engineer by profession, Zorya has been active in many areas of our Ukrainian community from a young age, including Plast and the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Zorya, while quiet in demeanor, is an exemplary young leader who lives up to her commitments, makes things happen and takes pride in engaging others. Read more…

Cheremosh’s New and Improved Studio: A Landmark for Edmonton and Our City’s Performing Arts Community

Graham Currie , President - The Cheremosh Ukrainian dancers have called several buildings “home” during their 44-year history. Eight years ago, after an ambitious initiative to own our own studio, that dream was realized when Cheremosh purchased the St. Paul Roman Catholic church in the historic northeast Edmonton community of Beverly. This in itself was a huge accomplishment. Volunteers within the organization worked together to build the studio floor to make the studio ready for rehearsals. Read more…

Cheremosh Display at the Alberta Legislature

Visit the Alberta Legislature pedway to see An Ensemble of Colour and the Cheremosh costume display. As a part of its 40th anniversary celebrations in 2010, Cheremosh commissioned Alberta artist, Larisa Sembaliuk Cheladyn to create a painting representative of its history. The result is the 16-foot watercolour capturing 40 years of Cheremosh’s regional variations of costuming that is now on display in the Legislature pedway. Read more…
