Matt began dancing with the Cheremosh School of Dance in 1993 at the age of 11. In 1998, Matt auditioned for the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company where he danced with company for over 12 years, retiring in 2010. His tour credits include performing in major Cheremosh productions including “New Beginnings”, “Share the Journey”, “Revolutions”, “Journey to the Great Wall”, “Razom”, and “The Art of Cheremosh”. During his time with Cheremosh, Matt was also active in assisting with the Cheremosh School of Dance and instructing pre-season classes. In addition to Ukrainian dance, Matt appeared as a principal dancer with The Edmonton Opera’s, “The Merry Widow” production in 2004.
Since receiving a diploma from MacEwan University’s Theatre Production program in 2008, Matt has been the resident technician for The Varscona Theatre. Working with a variety of theatre companies and individuals, he performs duties in a variety of technical capacities including organizing the rigging and setting of lighting and sound equipment; operating the sound and lighting boards for rehearsals and productions; prop design and construction; and lighting design. In 2012, Matt brought his professional skills back to the world of Ukrainian dance as stage manager for Cheremosh’s production, “Bud’mo Cheremosh”.
